About Snake Arena
A single-player .io snake arena against bots, where every snake wears a cute monster head. Steer toward the pointer, eat glowing food to grow, and climb the eight-row leaderboard, because length is your score. Boost to cut someone off, but boosting burns length. Your own body never hurts you; touch another snake's body with your head and you burst into food for everyone else. Coins from a run buy new monster skins in the shop.
How to play
- Your snake's head follows the pointer on a computer, or your finger on a phone.
- Eat the coloured food scattered around the arena to grow. Your length is your score, and an eight-row leaderboard shows where you stand.
- Touching another snake's body with your head ends your snake: it bursts into food and the snake you hit grows. Your own body and tail are safe to cross.
- Bots join straight away and keep the arena busy. After you are knocked out you come back after a short delay.
Tips
- Boost costs length. Holding boost (left mouse, Space, or a still finger on a phone) makes you faster but shrinks you while it is held. Use it in short bursts to cut in front of a rival.
- Cross yourself freely. Your own body never kills you, so tight loops are safe. Only other snakes' bodies are dangerous.
- Follow the knockouts. A snake that crashes turns into a trail of food. Being near a fight is the fastest way to grow, if you keep your head clear.
- Spend coins in the shop. Coins earned in a match buy new monster skins. Press Tab or tap Shop; the match keeps running while it is open.

From the developer
Snake Arena began on 7 September as a standalone 3D arena snake game, which I later compiled to WebGL for this site. The minimap draws pooled dots rather than using a second camera, because a camera over the whole arena cost more on the large presets than the game itself.
The burst was a deliberate contrast to boost: boost is a drain you hold, burst is a one-off cost for a short, much faster window with extra turning, because without the turn bonus the dash traced an arc too wide to dodge with. A test caught that at cost 3 a new snake could not afford it, so the cost is 2. The biggest rule change came on 14 September, when I made a snake's own body harmless: in the balance runs, player deaths per match fell from 10.9 to 5.4.
For this site I replaced the heads with monsters from Monsters Ultimate Pack 09 Cute Series by Meshtint Studio, tilted back 50 degrees so their faces show to the top-down camera, and drawn larger on wide screens. Touch was new work: hold still for 0.45 seconds to boost, which I raised from 0.30 after testing. The music is Talking Cute (Chiptune) by Pro Sensory, and the buttons use Kenney's UI Pack.

Update history
- Snake heads are now Meshtint monsters, the shop shows their pictures, and phones get touch controls: drag to steer, hold to boost, double-tap to burst.
- New music, Talking Cute by Pro Sensory, rounded buttons and panels, and food in six colours.
- Clicking a button no longer boosts or bursts, and recycled food no longer keeps a dead snake's colour.
- Your own body and tail can no longer kill you; only another snake's body does.
- A daylight arena, with the coin count, your leaderboard row and the kill feed recoloured so they stay readable on it.
- Added the burst, a short fast dash on a cooldown, and each arena size now brings its own bot count.
- First version: arena snake with a match menu, minimap, kill feed and arena size presets.
Questions
Is Snake Arena multiplayer?
No. It is single player against computer-controlled bots, so it plays the same offline and there is no waiting for a lobby.
Can I play Snake Arena on a phone?
Yes. Drag to steer, hold your finger still for about half a second or put down a second finger to boost, and double tap to burst. The menus resize for upright and sideways screens.
Does it save my progress?
Coins and the skins you have bought are kept in this browser. Each match starts again from a short snake.
How big is the download?
About 15 MB the first time. The browser keeps it, so the next visit starts faster.
